Kāmahi is a native tree found in many New Zealand forests and it is an excellent source of honey. Because of its attractive form and reddish coloration the foliage of young plants is frequently used by florists; it is often referred to as 'red birch'. Creamy white Kāmahi flowers gently drooping in racemes that are up to 11 cm long bloom throughout Spring. The honey is coloured light amber and has a distinctive nutty flavour. |
